Goal: To send more birthday cards to my friends and family
What made you choose this goal?: For a while, I have been thinking about how I want to be better about recognizing my family and friends' birthdays. I have a lot of family and friends that live far away and I want to make sure I send a heartfelt card to remind them I care for them, even if I can't be with them on their day. I think it's such an important day to remind someone you are thankful for them. In the past, I've just called or texted my loved ones, but there is just something so special about a handwritten card received in the mail!
What is your plan for achieving this goal?: I plan on putting all of their birthdays in my calendar on my phone and setting reminders a week before their birthday so I have time to get a card in the mail.

What made you choose this goal?: My health has been something that I've been trying to improve for the past few years and have gotten pretty side tracked. I want to be proactive and get healthy now while I'm young so I can hopefully carry it through the rest of my adult life. I have discovered a new approach that focuses on improving the entire life, rather than just diet and exercise, that I am excited to begin.
What is your plan for achieving this goal?: I plan to focus on improving my dietary choices and pay more entire to the fuel I am putting into my body. I have also started a journal to better track my emotional and mental well-being. I find journaling is a great way to stay in tune with myself and expel the negative thoughts to make more room for positivity. I am working on learning to counteract the hustle and bustle of life with personal reflection and time to collect myself, whether that be exercising or relaxing. I hope that by focusing on overhauling my entire life, rather than just my diet and exercise routine, that I will see the results I am looking for physically while also experiencing a dramatic increase in my overall "joie de vivre".

What made you choose this goal?: First, it looks like so much fun and it's portable! Second, I have been lucky enough to spend time in Hawaii, which really inspired me. The music is an integral part of the culture and it expresses joy in a unique way. Smiling while playing is a prerequisite.
What is your plan for achieving this goal?: I have an instructor, now I just need to figure out a time and commit. Maybe putting it out to the rest of the world will help me!

Goal: To educate myself more on various global and US political issues
What made you choose this goal?:I have noticed recently that I have started to feel undereducated on some topics. I had formed my own ideas but I felt that I didn't have the full understanding and knowledge to accurately support them. I want to feel as though I have a healthy understanding of the facts relating to these topics in the new year.
What is your plan for achieving this goal?:I have pinpointed seven topics that I want to dive into. I plan to read at least one book on each topic to gain understanding. I would like to read additional books to hear all viewpoints and understand the topics from as many sides as possible if time allows.

What made you choose this goal?: I see a lot of need in the world around me and I want to give back to those less fortunate who could use a helping hand. I care about trying to make the world a better place for others and I want to help in the best way I can. By donating to charity, I feel as though I am continuing to empower organizations with the skills and resources to make the biggest impact, even more so than I could personally.
What is your plan for achieving this goal?: I plan to make a monetary contribution once a month to a charity of my choice.

What made you choose this goal?: I am turning 40 next year and, for my birthday, I am going skydiving. It'll be my first time and I'm so excited! In planning for the day, I realized that there are probably a lot of great outdoor activities that I'm missing out on because, when given the choice, I always grab a book and head for a comfy reading spot. I figure it's time for a change- and who knows, maybe I'll find something outside that I love as much as reading!
What is your plan to achieve this goal?: At least once a month, I plan to go somewhere new or do something outdoors that I have never done before. Skydiving is already on the menu and I'm taking my daughter whitewater rafting in the spring. I'm going to talk my fmaily into going camping at least once (hopefully more!). I'd like to spend a day hiking in the Shenandoah mountains and another one hiking Pocahontas State Park. I know there are beautiful walking trails around the James River that my dog would love, so I foresee a lot of adventure walks in our future. Richmond has so many great outdoor options, I know I won't be at a loss to try something new each month!

What made you choose this goal?: I started road cycling mid-2016 and it's been an on-going goal of mine to ride the Capital Trail from start to finish and back, which is over 100 miles. It keeps me motivated to work harder at getting faster and biking farther than I have before. I completed my goal of running a half marathon this past year. I hope to look into possibly completing a Triathlon.
What is your plan for achieving this goal?: My plan starts with going through the darker, colder winter months by taking some spin classes. It's a great way to build stamina and keep building muscle without being limited by snow and ice. In the spring, I am planning to join a riding group for the motivational and emotional support.

What made you choose this goal?: My son will be 7 this summer and is a TOTAL Lego fanatic. In his letter to Santa this year, he only asked for one thing, "for all Lego sets, past, present, and future." Haha! I had to adjust his expectations a little bit, but basically he sees the worlds through Legos and he's quite talented when it comes to making his own creations. He takes after me in that way, I was crazy about Legos, K'Nex, and other building toys as a kid. Building with him is not only a great way to foster creativity, confidence, and competence in working with his hands, but it's also a great expereince for us to bond and for me to relive some of the best parts of my own childhood. Attending a camp together would be a chance for us to bond and for him to increase his building skills.
What is your plan for achieving this goal?: There are a lot of different avenues to go down with this, since there are different local and national organizations that involve building Legos. I'll start by doing some research for different Lego groups. Timing will be an issue since there are some major work projects going on this summer. So finding something that will allow me to take time off of work will be important. I'll want to find something local. There are traveling Lego groups, like Lego BrickFest and KidsFest, but the dates for 2017 haven't been posted for most of these yet. I'll have to keep an eye out for those. There are some other smaller, local groups that get together at schools or churches that I'll investigate too.
