Happy Monday fountain pen friends! Margaret here with my latest fountain pen and ink matchup. I had the pleasure of inking up a Delta Unica Matte Black with Diamine Marine, and let me tell you - I think this is my favorite match to date. Want to win this pen and ink? Find details on our Monday Matchup Giveaway at the bottom of the blog.
I started thinking of fun things having to do with the ink color and decided on a turtle. I googled images of a turtle, and sketched a drawing using pencil. I often like to start with pencil, before I commit to laying ink down on the page. Once the outline of the turtle was done, I traced the shell with the Unica. Madigan helped me find a quote about turtles and I loved the one she found. It was a good reminder to me to be comfortable in my own shell. I finished off this piece by using a brush pen to add some color to the turtle's shell. Diamine Marine is beautiful in color, so I loved how each piece of the shell appears slightly different in color based on how much water was mixed with the ink.
The Unica's nib is pretty wet, so even though I was using the fine nib, the flow was generous. That's definitely something to remember that when considering this pen. I also loved how light the pen was. It's a great size, a bit smaller than other pens I regularly use, and very comfortable when posted. I'm seriously considering picking one of these up for myself! I also loved using Diamine Marine. It's included in Brian's top 7 shading inks and does not disappoint. The color of the ink is true to what is represented in the writing of the quote, but when mixed with some water, you could see some of the variation you can achieve. I could see myself picking up a bottle of Diamine Marine to use to take notes or write letters.
